The Plateau of Leng: A place of chaos, horror, and cold desolation where different realities converge... it is located simultaneously high in the himalayas, deep in the antarctic and in the far north of the Dreamlands where Unknown Kadath sits atop it's vast coldness and the old gods gaze across it's desolate expanse and dream... as well as here in the endless pointless blog-wastes of the 'Net. Welcome. Come on down to the dungeon and see what lies beneath Azathoth's Abode.
If you want, you can listen to a podcast of sounds and music I put together really quick for Halloween this year. I call it Halloween Frightcast.
You can also listen to my other holiday themed podcasts (which are in all honesty better because I had more time to make them) if you want, but don't do it on Halloween - really Christmas junk starts too bloody early already without you listening to Christmas stuff on Halloween.
Ok, I made a Thanksgiving compilation and casted it. - You can find it HERE
It has Presidents Washington & Lincoln's Thanksgiving proclamations, segments from the Thanksgiving episodes of the Jack Benny and Quiz Kids radio programs (from 1952 & 1948 respectively) and mixed strategically around and amongst them are some radio spots for fake tv shows and songs that mostly fall into one of 2 categories: rather rude and potentially offensive but funny or Thanksgiving carols (xmas carols w/ thanksgiving lyrics).
You may find my combining all of that a little nutso or you might be amused by it, I don't know but in any case I invite you all to give it a listen. Running time is approx. 75 min of insanity.
Let me know what you make of it, its my 1st time doing a 'cast.
If you're getting bored with video clips, there is a lot of Cthulhu, Lovecraft, Horror, Monster, Vincent Price, Halloween, etc. themed audio and photos and whatnot over on the my.opera end of the Plateau... I kinda neglected it for about a year but I just cleaned things up over there and fixed all the broken links and stuff and I'll be adding some new stuff between now and Halloween - probably have to take some time out to fix my half broken PC situation a little better 1st tho. Anyway, lots over there already to play with if you haven't visited before. Links to the main blog and the photo galleries are over there on the sidebar someplace below the archive --------------------------->
When age fell upon the world, and wonder went out of the minds of men; when grey cities reared to smoky skies tall towers grim and ugly, in whose shadow none might dream of the sun or of Spring's flowering meads; when learning stripped the Earth of her mantle of beauty and poets sang no more of twisted phantoms seen with bleared and inward looking eyes; when these things had come to pass, and childish hopes had gone forever, there was a man who traveled out of life on a quest into spaces whither the world's dreams had fled.
Of the name and abode of this man little is written, for they were of the waking world only; yet it is said that both were obscure. It is enough to say that he dwelt in a city of high walls where sterile twilight reigned, that he toiled all day among shadow and turmoil, coming home at evening to a room whose one window opened not to open fields and groves but on to a dim court where other windows stared in dull despair.
From that casement one might see only walls and windows, except sometimes when one leaned so far out and peered at the small stars that passed. And because mere walls and windows must soon drive a man to madness who dreams and reads much, the dweller in that room used night after night to lean out and peer aloft to glimpse some fragment of things beyond the waking world and the tall cities.
After years he began to call the slow sailing stars by name, and to follow them in fancy when they glided regretfully out of sight; till at length his vision opened to many secret vistas whose existance no common eye suspected. And one night a mighty gulf was bridged, and the dream haunted skies swelled down to the lonely watcher's window to merge with the close air of his room and to make him a part of their fabulous wonder.
There came to that room wild streams of violet midnight glittering with dust of gold, vortices of dust and fire, swirling out of the ultimate spaces and heavy perfumes from beyond the worlds. Opiate oceans poured there, litten by suns that the eye may never behold and having in their whirlpools strange dolphins and sea-nymphs of unrememberable depths.
Noiseless infinity eddied around the dreamer and wafted him away without touching the body that leaned stiffly from the lonely window; and for days not counted in men's calandars the tides of far spheres that bore him gently to join the course of other cycles that tenderly left him sleeping on a green sunrise shore, a green shore fragrant with lotus blossums and starred by red camalotes...
Ad for Myth-Os cereal. From the HPL film festival:
IA! IA! Cthulhu Fthagn! (Really cool video clip, a montage of Cthuloid imagery accompanied by music from a bunch of sellouts from when they were once cool.)
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity — the boundless Daemon Sultan Azathoth, Lord of All Things, the monstrous nuclear chaos beyond angled space at the center of the multiverse whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
I've been vacationing here in Leng for the last century or so - being the center of all reality gets stressful (and would it kill those accursed flute players to learn a new tune?) and so you have to get away from it all sometimes.
